YES , I am a CS student. But before I start writing about the Life Of An Kosovar Student I will first try to explain my road to becoming a student. Here in Kosovo the education system really sucks! Yes, indeed! Let me only take a simple example: We are not allowed to take the classes we want at high school, we only choose one of four possible schools. They are: Mathematics-Informatics, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences and General Classes. I was at Mathematics-Informatics school. Well…that is not that good but it fitted me best. We had more maths and informatics classes and it was good. We don’t really have to bother about the classes offered because our Ministry Of Education does it for us, Hey IT REALLY HELPS! Well…our teachers are really good at maths, they work with a co-called “Russian Math System”, that is, you should not only learn what you need, you should learn what we think you need. Well, that might sound rude, but I consider it good. I don’t think a 15 year old guy knows what he exactly needs, so…! OK, high school is over. At the end of it you should go through some exams to be admitted at university. We call them “Mature Test” and “Acceptance Test”. First one is a test of more general knowledge and logic reasoning (of course all the questions are on topics learned at school). It has 100 questions and that: maths-28, English language-20, Albanian Language-20, Informatics-8, Chemistry-8, Physics-8, Biology-8. One must do at least 50% to pass it. If you pass it than you must take the “Acceptance Test”. Every faculty has it’s own “Acceptance Test”. CS’s “Acceptance Test” was all in maths. The number of questions differs from 10 to 20,and you should do at least 30% to pass. Now,if you will be admitted or not, depends on three factors: grades, the score from the “Mature test” and the score form the “Acceptance test”. You can get a maximum of 20 points from grades if you were at General Classes school which lasts four years , other three year schools have a maximum of 15 points (if all your grades were excellent). Every correct answer from the “Mature test” is worth 0.5 points, so you can get a maximum of 50 points from that test if you make it 100% (a thing that is impossible
). And you can get 30 points from the “Acceptance test” if u make it 100% too. So, 20 (from grades) + 50 (from the “Mature Test”) + 30 (from the “Acceptance Test”) = 100 points! And now, every faculty has a limited number of students they admit, and they select the applicants with the highest general score. So, this is what one should go through to be a part of our public university.
And I am gonna show you all my score as an example.
As I mentioned earlier, I was at a three year school so if all my grades were excellent I would take a maximum of 15 points and YES they were and I took 15 points from the grades.
My score at “Mature Test” was 90% (the best in Kosovo
), and I took 45 points from that. I made: maths-27, English Language-19, Albanian Language-17, Informatics-7, Chemistry-6,Physics-7,Biology-7, total: 90!
I made 80% of the “Acceptance Test” so I took 24 points (I am not happy with it at all :S)
And so the total score was: 15+45+24 = 84 points!
